Immersion Programme to Singapore

On January 12th, 2015,  my friends and I went to Singapore for immersion programme. From SMPK 6 PENABUR there were 14 student. We were accompanied by Sir David. We gathered at Soekarno Hatta Airport to meet other participants from the other schools. All participants were from Penabur Junior High School. They were from SMPK 2 PENABUR, SMPK 5 PENABUR, SMPK 7 PENABUR, and SMPK PENABUR Kota Wisata. We departed at 10.50 by Tiger Air plane.

We arrived at Changi Airport at 12.15. After we had lunch, we went to Merlion Park. There, we enjoy the giant statue in form of a mermaid but lion headed. We took some pictures of the scenery. And not little of us took pictures with Merlion statue background. We were very happy. The wind blew fast on that time. There, we also took a boat on a river. We went along the river and saw the amazing tall building.

From Merlion Park, we continued the trip to Garden by the Bay.  It is a large area consist of many kinds of plants. Gardens by the Bay is an integral part of a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden”. The stated aim is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city.

First announced to the public by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during the National Day Rally in August 2005, Gardens by the Bay is intended to become Singapore’s premier urban outdoor recreation space, and a national icon.

After that we went for dinner at the restaurant of the hotel where we lived. We lived in YWCA Fort Canning Lodge. It is at 6 Fort Canning Road, Orchard, Singapore. It is a good hotel with more than 200 bedrooms and main hall.

On the second day we visited NEast Water Plant. It is a place to renew the water to be healthy water. So we needn’t cook it before drinking. From there, we went to Universal Studio. I believe that everyone visits Singapore will go to this place. It is very popular resort. Many kinds of performances, games, and shows are available there. For example; Go beyond the screen and Ride The Movies™ at Universal Studios Singapore.  Only here can you experience cutting-edge rides, shows, and attractions based on your favourite blockbuster films and television series, including TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, Shrek 4-D Adventure, Madagascar: A Crate Adventure, Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure, and more! From Universal Studio, we spent time to buy many things at Bugis Junction. Many of us bought some jeweleries, food and drink. We spent about 2 hours there. Then, at 9 p.m we backed to the hotel.

On the third day, we visited North Vista Secondary School. When we arrived to that school, we were greeted by the ‘prefect’. Prefect is just like ‘OSIS’ in Indonesian school. We joined North Vista students to study. The main objective is to get something good from that school. Could be the curriculum, facilities, the way teachers manage the class and many more. I made friends with them, for example; Murni Kasmani, Timmy, Tania, Matthew and Richard. We joined learning until 11 p.m, then we went to Science Center, Marina Bay Sands.

On the fourth day we went to North Vista School again. On that day, we joined the class just 2 periods, then we had to prepare the performance. We had prepared Angklung performance. Pak Suko taught us in Jakarta, but then Sir David trained us again to make it better preparation. We performed two songs, Gundul – Gundul Pacul and Ibu Kita Kartini. Actually we are not Angklung player at school, but i think we did well on that performance. Then we left North Vista to go to China Town, and Sentosa Island. We were really happy there.

On the last day, we went to Singapore Discovery Center, we enjoyed and saw many awesome things. I think it improves our knowledge. From Discovery Center, we went to Orchad Road. We had lunch at Hannamasha Restaurant, then we had 4 hours for shopping. That was really fascinating time at Singapore. I hope someday I could go to Singapore again with my friends.
